Symptoms

“Error when installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 redistribute (x86) - 14.32.31326 component: 1638” error message occurs during installation of FineReader PDF on a workstation running Windows portion of a Mac (Windows 11) via Parallels. 

Cause

The error message may be caused by the component not being installed automatically.

 

Resolution

Please perform the installation using the MSI file as described in our Administrator's guide: Using Windows Installer.
To install FineReader PDF, use the ABBYY FineReader PDF x64.msi file from the folder containing the setup files (by default C:\temp\FR16\Bin):

    Trying to install using the .msi file (after the C++ '1638' error) from the admin CMD returned to the cmd prompt with no action reported.  The addition of the /L*V parameter to produce a LOG file failed to produce one.  I'm still trying to install.
