"The serial number is already in use" message appears when reactivating the subscription license


After the subscription renewal, it is not possible to access all features of FineReader PDF. When trying to reactivate a serial number of a subscription, the error message appears:

The serial number is already in use.


The situation may appear when there were some Internet connection issues on the computer on the day when the subscription should have been renewed.


To fix the issue, please update the license as follows: 

  1. In FineReader PDF, go to the Help menu >  select About > License Info.
  2. Select the license > click the Update... button.
  3. Complete the update via the Internet.

If the issue has not been resolved, please submit a request.
