Question
How to save and reuse documents, OCR projects and custom files such as Hot Folder tasks, user patterns and languages, user dictionaries, and area templates created in the FineReader PDF 15 version, when switching from FineReader PDF 15 to FineReader PDF 16?
Answer
Documents (PDFs, MS Word, Excel documents, etc.)
Documents converted or modified with the FineReader PDF program are saved exactly where they were saved by a user on the PC, and therefore they are independent of FineReader PDF itself. Uninstalling and reinstalling FineReader PDF of the same or a newer version will not affect those documents. The documents will remain in the same folders as they are.
OCR Projects
OCR projects can be saved in FineReader PDF 15 and opened in FineReader PDF 16 as follows:
- In FineReader PDF 15, open the OCR project.
- Click the File menu > Save OCR Project....
- In the dialog box that opens, enter a name for the OCR project and specify a folder where it should be stored.
To open the saved OCR project in FineReader PDF 16:
- In FineReader PDF 16, launch the OCR Editor.
- Click the File menu > Open OCR Project....
- In the dialog box that opens, select the OCR project that you want to open.
When opening the OCR project in FineReader PDF 16, a user will be prompted to update the OCR project to the most recent version since it was created in the earlier FineReader PDF 15.
Please note that when an OCR project is saved, not only the page images and recognized text are saved, but also any patterns and languages you created while working on the project.
