Symptoms

When opening FineReader PDF 16 on a workstation the following errors occur:

"ERR_EN_SER_PARSE_XML_SOLID"

and

"ERR_EN_SER_LOAD_MISSED"  

Cause

The errors are caused by the corrupted XML file:  %AppData%\ABBYY\FineReader\16\fineUI.CommonSettings.xml.

Resolution

The issue was fixed in FineReader PDF 16 Release 3 Update 2. 

As a workaround it is also possible to remove the following file: %AppData%\ABBYY\FineReader\16\fineUI.CommonSettings.xml

To reinstall FineReader PDF with the latest build follow the steps below:

1. Remove the current version installed as described in the following Knowledge Base article: How to completely remove FineReader PDF 16 for Windows.
2. Install the latest version of the application: Download links for FineReader PDF 16.
