Error: "This application cannot run on your PC To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher" when installing FineReader PDF

Symptoms

When installing FineReader PDF, the following error message appears:
This application cannot run on your PC
To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher.

Cause

The error can be caused if the computer has a 32-bit operating system.

Resolution

FineReader PDF does not support 32-bit operating systems:  ABBYY is ending the support for 32-bit compatible product versions. 

Install the program on a 64-bit computer. If there is no such a possibility, please submit a request.
