The difference between the "Text over the page image" and "Text under the page image" options in Searchable PDF format settings

Question

What is the difference between the Text over the page image and Text under the page image options in Searchable PDF format settings for FineReader PDF?

Answer

Text over the page image
This option saves the background and pictures of the original document and places the recognized text over them. The resulting PDF document will be fully searchable. In some cases, the appearance of the resulting document may slightly differ from the original.

Text under the page image
This option saves the entire page as an image and places the recognized text underneath. The text layer makes it possible to search the document and copy text, while the page images insure that the document looks virtually the same as the original.

I would like to process my scanned PDFs as 'text under page image', as I have done in previous versions, however, when I REFLOW the PDF in Adobe Reader I find that the text layer is transparent, and therefore blank. I know that there is text there as it can be selected (still not visible). I need this text to be visible in Reflow mode. Can you advise? This would appear to be a bug?

    Hello Carol,

This is a known issue. Text layer is transparent in FineReader PDF 15 in Reflow mode.

As a workaround, it is possible to make some changes in the registry. I'll create a support ticket based on your comment to provide a workaround for you.
