Symptoms

When running a Hot Folder task for conversion of files of Microsoft Office formats (e.g. *.docx, *.xlsx), the task completes with the warning in the Hot Folder log:

The image file format has not been recognized

Cause

The warning occurs because the selected folder contains files in a format that is not supported for input in the Hot Folder.

Resolution

The Hot Folder tool supports input of the following file formats:  

• Bitmap (*.bmp; *.dib; *.rle)
• DCX (*.dcx)
• DjVu (*.djvu; *.djv)
• GIF (*.gif)
• JBIG2 (*.jb2; *.jbig2)
• JPEG 2000 (*.jp2; *.j2k; *.jpf; *.jpx; *.jpc)
• jpeg (*.jpg; *.jpeg)
• PCX (*.pcx)
• PDF (*.pdf)
• PNG (*.png)
• TIFF (*.tif; *.tiff)
• WDP (*.wdp; *.wmp; *.hdp)
• XPS (*.xps)

Note: During task creation in the Step 2, it is possible to select the input file format. 

Files to be processed in Hot Folder should be in one of the above-mentioned formats. It is possible to convert Microsoft Office files to PDF in FineReader PDF as described in the article: Creating a PDF file from editable document formats with FineReader PDF.

Additional information

"The image file format has not been recognized" error message appears while adding a document in OCR Editor
