Question
How to install FineReader PDF provided that the License Server and workstations are located in different subnets?
Answer
FineReader PDF can be installed and used in a local area network (all workstations and server are in the same network). Nevertheless, if the License Server and the workstations are located in different subnets, a TCP/IP connection must be configured.
To do this, on the computer where the License Server is installed, make the appropriate changes to the connection protocol and the connection port settings in the Licensing.ini file, and then copy the file to the administrative installation point. For more details check the following documentation:
- for FineReader PDF 16: How can I change the network connection settings?
- for FineReader PDF 15: How can I change the network connection settings?
The main thing is that the license server should be accessible from all the workstations all the time (for Concurrent and Remote User license types; for Per Seat licenses - during the installation). To check if the computer with the License Server is accessible from the workstation do the following:
- Create any shared folder on the computer with ABBYY FineReader License Server installed, e.g. Test;
- Open Windows Explorer window on a workstation (“Windows +E” on keyboard);
- Type \\SERVERNAME in the address bar and press Enter. Then try to open the Test folder.
