Symptoms

While adding an Office format document in FineReader PDF OCR Editor, the "The image file format has not been recognized" error message appears.

Cause

The option of opening Office format files directly in OCR Editor is not supported. It is possible to open only images and PDF files in it.

Resolution

To process an Office format file (DOC(X), RTF, TXT, or other) in the OCR Editor, it should be converted to PDF format first:

1. In the main menu of FineReader PDF, click on the PDF button in the Convert to section > choose the Office format file and click Open > specify conversion settings and click Convert to PDF > choose where to save the converted PDF file and click Save. 
   
   Or convert the needed file to PDF via the context menu. Right-click the Office format file, select Convert to PDF with ABBYY FineReader PDF option, specify conversion settings and choose where to save the converted PDF file, click Save. 
   
2. After saving, it will be automatically opened in PDF Editor. To recognize the file in the OCR Editor, click Recognize > Recognize and Verify in OCR Editor.
