XML analysis was unsuccessful

XML analysis was unsuccessful: line 0, character 0. XML document should contain the highest level element error message appears when FineReader is started. 

In order to solve the issue for FineReader 14 do the following:

  1. Quit FineReader, if it was running.
  2. Delete the content of the following folders:
    • %localappdata%\ABBYY\FineReader\14.00\FineReaderShell
    • %localappdata% \ABBYY\FineReader\14.00\PDFTransformer
  3. Delete file datafile.xml from %localappdata%\ABBYY\FineReader\14.00 folder.
  4. Launch the application anew.

For FineReader 12 do the following:

  1. Quit ABBYY FineReader, if it was running.
  2. Open the folder %localappdata%\ABBYY\FineReader\12.00.
  3. Delete the following files:
    • datafile.xml 
    • social.xml
  4. Launch the application anew.
