XML analysis was unsuccessful: line 0, character 0. XML document should contain the highest level element.

In order to solve the issue for ABBYY FineReader 14 do the following:

  1. Quit ABBYY FineReader, if it was running.
  2. Delete the content of the following folders:
    • %localappdata%\ABBYY\FineReader\14.00\FineReaderShell
    • %localappdata% \ABBYY\FineReader\14.00\PDFTransformer
  3. Delete file datafile.xml from %localappdata%\ABBYY\FineReader\14.00 folder.
  4. Launch the application anew.

For ABBYY FineReader 12 do the following:

  1. Quit ABBYY FineReader, if it was running.
  2. Open the folder %localappdata%\ABBYY\FineReader\12.00.
  3. Delete the following files:
    • datafile.xml 
    • social.xml
  4. Launch the application anew.
