TWAIN drivers that begin with WIA- are not supported in FineReader PDF

Symptoms

The scanner is not listed in the device list in newer versions of FineReader PDF even though it was working with the previous versions of FineReader. 

Cause

The scanner uses Twain Data Source On WIA type of drivers (TWAIN drivers that begin with WIA-). This type of drivers (Twain Data Source On WIA) is not supported in FineReader 14, FineReader PDF 15, and FineReader PDF 16.

Resolution

Please install the TWAIN driver downloaded from the scanner manufacturer’s website.

More details: Microsoft provides a TWAIN wrapper for some WIA drivers. This allows applications that cannot use WIA drivers to see these WIA drivers as TWAIN. When using a TWAIN driver with FineReader 12 or earlier versions, a TWAIN driver that begins with "WIA -" is shown.
