Issue
After following the steps described in System Administrator`s Guide for protocol change to TCP\IP there is still an error: The RPC server is unavailable.
Cause
Instruction for FineReader 14 in Online help does not describe some steps.
Solution
Note: Instructions for FineReader 15 are published in our online Help.
In order to fix the issue for FineReader 14, please use the instruction below to change to protocol type to TCP/IP:
- Install Server and License Manager.
- On the Server open the file %programfiles%\Common Files\ABBYY\FineReader\14.00\Licensing\Licensing.ini and enable here TCP/IP protocol and 81 port:

ConnectionEndpointName=81 - Open the file %programfiles%\Common Files\ABBYY\FineReader\14.00\Licensing\NetworkLicenseServer.ini and enable here TCP/IP protocol and 81 port:

ConnectionEndpointName=81 - Copy the file Licensing.ini with the changes to %programfiles%\ABBYY FineReader 14 License Server.
- Restart ABBYY FineReader 14 Licensing Service to apply changes.
- Launch License Manager and activate licenses.
- Create an Administrative point (e.g. \\shared files\FR14).
- Copy updated Licensing.ini and NetworkLicenseServer.ini to a subfolder ABBYY FineReader 14 in Administrative point folder (where the executable FineReader.exe is located, e.g. \\shared files\FR14\ABBYY FineReader 14).
- Install FineReader on workstations via Setup.exe from Administrative point.
- Open 81 port on Server.
Additional information
If you have one machine used as a server for two different FineReader versions you need to use different ports for every FineReader version.
