Symptoms

While installing a 64-bit version of the FineReader Engine 12, the following error message appears:

There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action Launch_regsvr32_FREngine.dll.x64. location: C:\WINDOWS\system32\.command: regsvr32.exe /s "C:\Program Files\ABBYY SDK\12\FineReader Engine\Bin64\FREngine.dll

Cause

This message appears due to the user's insufficient rights to register the required libraries.

Resolution

Try to perform the installation via Setup.exe - it requires administrator rights, so while necessary rights will be granted, the installation process will be successfully performed. The .msi file does not request administrative rights, so there is no chance to raise them.
