Error code: 123 during installation of FineReader

Error message during the installation:

Internal program data is incorrect. Reinstall the program or contact the system administrator. Error code: 123

Please add these folders to exceptions of your antivirus and CCleaner and repeat the installation:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\ABBYY FineReader 15;
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ABBYY;
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\ABBYY;
  • C:\Program Files\ABBYY FineReader 15;
  • C:\ProgramData\ABBYY\FineReader; 
  • C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\ABBYY\FineReader;
  • C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\ABBYY\FineReader;

If the issue persists, please reinstall the program as described below:

1. Uninstall ABBYY FineReader PDF 15 using the standard Windows methods Start > Control Panel > Programs > Apps and Features.

2. Delete the following folders, that are eventually still exist: 

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\ABBYY FineReader 15
  • C:\ProgramData\ABBYY\FineReader\15.00
  • %userprofile%\AppData\Local\ABBYY\FineReader\15.00
  • %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\ABBYY\FineReader\15.00
  • C:\temp\FR15

Please note that ProgramData and AppData folders can be hidden.

3. Switch off any third party software (registry cleaners, antivirus software).

4. Install the program by right-clicking the installation file and choosing "Run as administrator". Turn on the antivirus software after the installation.

    I am licensed user of Abby Fine Reader 15 Standard / standalone / ESD. I have been using it since January 2020.

    Ten days ago we are forced to work from home due to COVIT19 and our IT dept. installed a VPN connection utility to my PC at work.

    I brought it  to my home and yesterday, 7th of April 2020, I needed to use Abby FR 15. When I clicked Abby shortcut to run the program, I got "program data corrupted. error code: 258".

    After contacting Abby Support Team in my country,

    * I removed Abby and antivirus program ESET from my computer,

    * stopped Windows Defender protection,

    * re-download Abby from https://www.abbyy.com/finereader-downloads/standalone/ link.

    Unfortunately, when I started to install the program as Run As Administrator, the application stopped and gave error code 123. 

    The advice in https://support.abbyy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009440879-Error-code-123-during-installation-of-FineReader   link is not helpful because when I tried to install Abby, there was no antivirus program in my PC.

    Please help me and show me a way to solve the problem as soon as possible. I will appreciate your promt reply. Regards. Nil
