Conversion of document files halts when using Microsoft Excel

The spoolsv.exe / splwow64.exe printer service may also stop. 

To fix the problem, complete the following steps:

  1. Open Task Manager and stop the following processes: excel.exe, spoolsv.exe / splwow64.exe.
  2. Select a local printer as the default printer (e.g. Microsoft XPS Writer).
  3. Restart the spoolsv.exe / splwow64.exe printer service.
