The following error message appears when the installation is launched from Setup.exe on Windows 8.1or Windows Server 2012 R2:

• "Installation package cannot be properly installed on computers running under Microsoft Windows 8.1 or Windows Server® 2012 R2 without the KB2919355 update"

Cause:

FineReader PDF 15 cannot be installed without Visual C++ Redist installed. And the Visual C++ Redist cannot be installed without the Windows updates listed below.

Resolution:

Install Windows updates sequentially in this order:
KB2919442
KB2919355
KB2999226
