Block types

What block types are available in ABBYY FineReader Engine

After the automatic Document Analysis step was conducted, a document page will be “split up in different areas of interest” (= blocks)

A block may be of one of the following types:

Text block

Text block corresponds to an image area that was identified as formatted text. Each text block should  contain single-column text.

Table block

Table block corresponds to an image zone that was recognized as a table. It could be a real table or an area of text lines that are structured as a table. When the technology reads this area type, it draws vertical and horizontal separators inside the area to form a table. This area is then rendered as a table in the output text. A table's region may only be rectangular.

Checkmark block

The Checkmark block corresponds to an image zone that was identified as a checkmark.

Block for auto analysis

This is an area of an image that the application should analyze automatically. The application performs the layout analysis procedure that replaces blocks of this type with one or more blocks of other specific block type (text, picture, table, or barcode).
