Errors in Event Viewer: Requested operation requires an OLE DB Session object, which is not supported by the current provider

Symptoms

  • There are multiple errors in Windows Application logs:
Requested operation requires an OLE DB Session object, which is not supported by the current provider
  • The Processing Server is in restart status for a long time without any change.
  • Connectivity test with SQL 11 Native fails.

Cause

The issue may appear when the level of Transport Layer Security (TLS) on servers is increased (by either restricting lower levels or requiring higher values from SQL) and as the result of these actions the SQL Native driver will generate an error and interrupt communication between components.

Resolution

To fix the issue manually specify the driver in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\FlexiCapture12\Server\web.config.

Check the Provider attribute in connectionStrings tag:

<connectionStrings><add name="FlexiCapture12ConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=SQLNCLI11;Data Source=(local)\XXX;Initial Catalog=XXX;Trusted_Connection=yes" /></connectionStrings>

change it to:

<connectionStrings><add name="FlexiCapture12ConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=MSODBCSQL17;Data Source=(local)\XXX;Initial Catalog=XXX;Trusted_Connection=yes" /></connectionStrings>
