I would like to purchase Finereader Pro for Mac, however if there is going to be a new version in the end of March I'll wait because I do not want to pay for current version and for the upgrade in two months. Is end of March still valid date for the new release?

I have purchased the old version, now I am using the beta version.

I want to know that if I should purchase again for the new official version (March 2021)?

I had requested, and received, a refund. I have been able to develop a much better workflow for free that won't break on new OS releases with no quick fix.

    So long, ABBYY!

I have hit the "Follow" button, but not clear if I will get an email when the new version compatible with the Mac Big Sur OS comes out.  Many thanks!

I've been trialing your product on Big Sur and we can't buy it or use it properly until this issue is sorted. It's a blocker for us unfortunately...

With Big Sur 11.3 beta 2 again I get correct PDF only with "only image and text" option, otherwise I get PDF that in Preview App are seen with black pages (but they are correct in Acrobat)... Also old PDF made with FineReader now appears "black" in Preview and Quicklook.

    Hello Salvo,

Please let us know if the issue persists in official macOS 11.3 version. It would be better if you create a support ticket and provide us original and resulted files. At the moment we were not able to reproduce such an issue on the latest masOS version 11.2.2.

    yes, absolutely.

I suspect the bug was introduced in 11.3, I submitted the report to Apple.

I get the wrong visualisation in all PDF files with OCR, also the old one made with FineReader or CZUR software, in Preview, QuickLook and Safari and in every accounts on the computer.

I don't get the error in another computer with Big Sur 11.2.x.

    Gracias.

So, what's the update? Do we finally have ABBY adapted to MAC Big Sur? It's been 5 months working with terrible tools.

Are there any chances for a second Beta with some of the reported issues corrected?

After all the first beta is not suitable for work, and there is no good reason to keep looking for issues on a month old build.

I`ve also created a ticket based on your comment that the beta version is not suitable for work. Please await a reply from our Customer Support team.

The beta version is EXTREMELY slow. Before Big Sur I could OCR a 400-page book in 10-15 min on my iMac (late 2015, 24GB). Now it takes HOURS. I started OCR on a 423 page book about 6 hours ago. It finished in about 4 hours and now I'm trying to export it as a PDF. It seems like it's doing the OCR all over again as it seems like it will take 4 hours to finish the export. Once OCR is done, exporting should be a matter of a few minutes.

MBP i7 16GB also noticeable slower with the beta.

Besides speed, the Image quality, and color mismatch issues currently prevent me from using it to create pdf's that will need to be re-created everything works correctly.

Also the beta isn't a universal build, so it would not run native on Apple M1 Macs. So the beta isn't even running on my newer hardware.

PDF export seems to allow much more detailed choice on the kind of PDF we want to get, and that's very welcome, but unfortunately, there is no explanation on what does what, where to use what.

Having tooltips for the buttons in the PDF viewer toolbar would also help, so it wouldn't be necessary to understand/learn by doing/clicking.

Basically the beta looks promising, however I think it would have helped the development process to have a more iterative process.

I'm using both macOS and Windows versions, both last available non-beta versions. Before Big Sur update, I used both more or less equal, but since Big Sur I'm using Windows version only. I didn't noticed much until I started using Windows only, but, comparing both versions in more or less same hardware:

    • Windows version is more than 10x faster than macOS version. A book of about 250 pages takes no more than 2 minutes to be ready from scan double page into final MRC high quality searchable PDF, when in macOS needs between 10 and 20 minutes.
    • Windows version has a lot, but a lot more options than current macOS version, and has a bugfixing policy that resolved two crashes and some out-of-memory issues only with the telemetry they got.
    • Quality result is incredibly better in Windows than in macOS. As a matter of comparing, mid quality MRC in windows is similar to high quality MRC in macOS, not talking about a lot of more customization options. Same for sizes. Windows version use to generate half size or even less than macOS version.
    • UI is fast in Windows. In macOS is meh going to very poor. Any action in Windows is almost immediately started asynchronously...

I really would like to see a macOS version comparable to Windows one, but, as I'm reading here, macOS one seems subpar even being more modern...

    My two cents.

Regarding an earlier comment. Is the new version going to work on M1 Macs?

Also, unrelated, could the Mac version get a proper spellchecker with manual correction feature?

Hello. Due to this long wait. I had to end up buying the PC version and use it on my virtual machine, however, it isn't as intuitive and comfortable as the old Abby for Mac. That being said, wasn't the new Abby for Mac going to be released today?
