How to increase the performance of FineReader PDF on a multicore CPU

Question

How to change the number of processor cores used for OCR in FineReader PDF?

Answer

The number of processor cores that are used for OCR in FineReader PDF can be changed as follows:

  1. In the New Task window, go to Files > select Options....
Or in the OCR Editor, go to Tools > select Options....
  2. In the Options window, go to the Other tab.
  3. In Number of processor cores to use for OCR, specify how many processor cores FineReader PDF may use for OCR.

The selected number of cores is applied to any recognition in OCR Editor and PDF Editor of FineReader PDF 16 including background recognition. By design, FineReader PDF 16 uses N-1 cores from N cores available for the processor.

For FineReader PDF 15, the selected number of cores is applied to OCR in the OCR Editor and via direct saving from the menu File > Save as Searchable PDF in PDF Editor. By design, FineReader PDF 15 uses 1 core for background recognition in PDF Editor, including the recognition starting with the Recognize button in PDF Editor. For other recognition processes, FineReader PDF 15 uses N-1 cores from N cores available for the processor.
