How to export/import a user dictionary in FineReader

Question

How can I transfer my dictionaries from an earlier version of FineReader to FineReader PDF 15?

Answer

To export the dictionaries from FineReader, do the following:

  1. Run FineReader OCR Editor;
  2. Open any document;
  3. Go to Tools > View Dictionaries;
  4. Select the necessary dictionary, double-click it, select Export;
  5. Save the dictionary to the necessary directory.

Alternatively: copy the dictionaries directly from the folder:

C:\Users\%localuser%\AppData\Roaming\ABBYY\FineReader\15.00\UserDictionaries - for FineReader 15;

C:\Users\%localuser%\AppData\Roaming\ABBYY\FineReader\14.00\UserDictionaries - for FineReader 14;

C:\Users\%localuser%\AppData\Roaming\ABBYY\FineReader\12.00\UserDictionaries - for FineReader 12;

Please note, AppData folder may be hidden.

To import the dictionaries to FineReader PDF 15:

  1. Run the program;
  2. Open any document in OCR Editor;
  3. Go to Tools > View Dictionaries;
  4. Select corresponding language (e.g. English for English dictionary), double click on it, and select Import;

C:\Users\%localuser%\AppData\Roaming\ABBYY\FineReader\14.00\FineReaderShell\UserDictionaries - for FineReader 14.

    Also, how do I get ABBYY 15 standard to treat all text as text and not images for better Chinese OCR
    of english-chinese text ?
    It converts of lot of chinese text into images instead of ocr into chinese text
