FineReader Server installation fails

Symptoms

FineReader Server installation fails.

Windows Component Services opens with the error message.

And the following error messages could be found in the installation logs:

Action start 14:16:06: ConfigureComPlusInstall_x64.
ConfigureComPlusInstall: Error 0x8004e00f: Failed to get collection
ConfigureComPlusInstall: Error 0x8004e00f: Failed to get partitions collection
ConfigureComPlusInstall: Error 0x8004e00f: Failed to get partitions collection
ConfigureComPlusInstall: Error 0x8004e00f: Failed to get applications collection
ConfigureComPlusInstall: Error 0x8004e00f: Failed to find collection object for application
ConfigureComPlusInstall: Error 0x8004e00f: Failed to verify applications
CustomAction ConfigureComPlusInstall_x64 returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)

Cause

The situation is related to the Windows issue:
Error code 8004E00F - COM+ was unable to talk to the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator

Resolution

  1. To fix it, please contact your system administrator.
    There is an MS article that can help: Error: 8004E00F
  2. As a workaround, if your scenario doesn't require API support, I can recommend disabling the COM-based API component during the installation.
    In this case, FineReader Server should be installed successfully:
