Is it possible to use a 3rd party engine for recognition in the Processing skill?

Answer

In Vantage 2.1 it became possible. Though it will not allow disabling ABBYY's full-text OCR completely, the Process Skill will have a brand new Custom Activity, which will allow sending HTTP requests to a 3rd party web service (synchronous calls only for now). As a part of these calls, it is possible to attach source input document file, output JSON file, string information like field coordinates, etc., get a response, and replace the field values recognized by Vantage with field values recognized by a 3rd party.
