How to restart FineReader Engine after a crash on Linux

Symptoms

After a crash, FineReader Engine cannot be initialized and the error message "Failed to run license. There are no free licenses." is displayed.

Cause

While the software that utilizes FineReader Engine is running, the Licensing Service does not allow the license to be used again by locking it. In case of a crash, the Licensing Service would still be running keeping the license locked.

Resolution

The issue can be resolved in several ways.

  • Restarting the machine will also restart the service and allow to start the Engine again.
  • The Licensing Service can be restarted manually to release the license by executing the following command via the command line:
     systemctl restart abbyy-fre12-licensing-service.service

No, not yet. I just want to know if I can restart my registered version of ABBY Fine Reader 11 on my new laptop HP Omen.
