Symptoms

After enabling the Convert to black and white option in the Image preprocessing settings of FineReader PDF 15 (the Tools menu > Options... > Image Processing > Show Custom Settings > Convert to black and white), the resulting document saved with the PDF-XChange 5.0 for ABBYY FineReader 15 virtual printer is still in color.

Cause

The PDF-XChange virtual printer is the third-party software component integrated in FineReader PDF 15. The options selected in the FineReader PDF 15 settings do not affect the conversion via the virtual printer.

Resolution

To convert a document to black and white using the PDF-XChange virtual printer you can enable the corresponding options in the PDF-XChange settings:

1. Open the document > go to the File menu > select Print > make sure that the PDF-XChange 5.0 for ABBYY FineReader 15 is set as a printer.
2. Click the Printer Settings... button.
3. Go to the Graphics > select Convert to Black & White in two drop-down lists > click OK to save changes.
4. Click Print to convert the document.
