Outlook disabled the ABBYY FineReader PDF 15 add-in. It caused Outlook to start slowly

Issue

When starting MS Outlook with ABBYY FineReader PDF 15 add-in integrated into it, the warning message appears:

Outlook detected an issue with an add-in and disabled it.

After clicking the View More Details... button, the following message appears, and the add-in is auto-disabled:

Outlook disabled the add-in "ABBYY FineReader 15.0 MSOutlook COM Add-In". It caused Outlook to start slowly.

Cause

When MS Outlook detects latency of events such as switching between Outlook folders, arrival of new emails, opening Calendar items, etc., it can try to reduce the load by disabling additional integrated programs. The issue is not necessarily related to a specific add-in (i.e ABBYY FineReader 15.0 MSOutlook COM Add-In), but rather caused by a general load that arose in Outlook application.

Resolution

You can re-enable the add-in and select the Always enable this add-in option to prevent the add-in from being auto-disabled by the Office program.

For example, the screenshot displays an add-in that was disabled because it caused Outlook to shut down slowly. Click the Always enable this add-in button > click Apply to re-enable the add-in.

  1. In Outlook go to the File menu.
  2. Scroll to Slow and Disabled COM Add-ins > click Manage COM Add-ins.
