Error message "Invalid file name. Prohibited characters: *" when trying to export a document

Symptoms

When exporting a document in FineReader PDF for Mac, the following error message appears:

Invalid file name. Prohibited characters: *

Cause

The error message can be related to the selected file location, if there is an asterisk * sign in any folder of the full path for the resulting document. 

Resolution

Try exporting the document to the desktop. Verify the path for the presence of an asterisk * sign and modify it.

    The limitation "if there is an asterisk * sign in any folder of the full path for the resulting document", the document document can't be saves is an utterly silly restriction.

    What is the logic of that restriction?
