In case your question is about saving the settings of FineReader PDF to apply them on a new machine, please copy the following file from the current machine to the new one: fineUI.CommonSettings.xml (from the folder: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\ABBYY\FineReader\<version>).
The file fineUI.CommonSettings.xml contains all the settings, so you don't need to back up any other files to back up the program settings. Please note, however, that signatures, stamps, area templates, user dictionaries, user languages, user patterns are not the part of the settings and therefore they are not backed up with this file.
For us to better understand how we can improve backing up and restoring the settings for FineReader PDF users, can you please describe the purpose why you need the settings to be backed up in your case? How and for what are you going to use the backup? Thank you!

Hello!
There's no possibility to backup the whole set of FineReader settings. You can save user languages, user dictionaries, user patterns (https://help.abbyy.com/en-us/finereader/16/user_guide/networkfirstpage/), and area templates (https://help.abbyy.com/en-us/finereader/16/user_guide/workwithtemplates/) as files and then reuse them again. When converting documents in OCR Editor, if you save your work to an OCR Project (https://help.abbyy.com/en-us/finereader/16/user_guide/batchwork/), all current program settings will be saved to it too and restored when you open the OCR Project again to continue working on the conversion task.
Hi,
In case your question is about saving the settings of FineReader PDF to apply them on a new machine, please copy the following file from the current machine to the new one:
fineUI.CommonSettings.xml (from the folder: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\ABBYY\FineReader\<version>).
thank you, is there a way to also backup other apps like OCR Editor?
Yes, the file includes the settings for the OCR Editor. Let me know if it works for you.
Are other files in FineReader folder necessary?
Hi! Sorry for the delay with the answer.
