Sometimes after I've gone through an entire document and set up custom table areas, FineReader will clobber the custom areas and replace it with a newly analyzed page. I can't quite figure out when this happens-- perhaps when I try to re-recognize all pages. I can't reproduce it at will but it happens often enough to be very annoying, since I've just finished painstakingly setting up the custom recognition areas. To make matters worse, saving the OCR Project doesn't seem to actually save the custom areas-- or perhaps loading the saved OCR Project file doesn't restore them?
It's probably too much to hope that this bug be fixed, but perhaps someone could point me towards what user interface component is triggering this problem, so that I can avoid it? I'm already saving the OCR project very frequently, but as I mentioned, that doesn't seem to save the custom areas.

Hello Eric! Sorry to hear that FineReader gives you troubles. Some operations with pages should and will result in removing manually edited areas or replacing them with the automatically detected ones. For example, "Analyze Page" command (button) will replace them as this command is literally the instruction to FineReader that says "detect the areas on the page for me". Those operations on a page in the Image Editor that change the page image geometry (size, distortions, etc.) or orientation, such as Crop, distortion corrections, Resolution correction, rotation, etc., will result in removing previously detected or manually added areas from the page because they do not match to the page content after the operation is done. Maybe you're using any of these tools when the problem happens?
However, saving and opening OCR project, recognizing a page or all pages should not result in destroying the user-defined or adjusted areas. If it happens to you, please open a support ticket with "Submit a request" button on top of the page and provide as many details as possible for our Support specialists to be able to investigate the problem and help you. Please do not forget to indicate which version and release of FineReader you're using (you can find it in About dialogue in the software menu).
Thank you for your prompt reply. I managed to reproduce it today on a 15 page PDF. After carefully creating custom table areas for each page, I saved the OCR project, then hit "Recognize all Pages". Most of the pages had the custom areas replaced by new areas, as if I had hit "Analyze all Pages". A couple of pages were unchanged. And loading the OCR project from the saved file did not restore my custom areas. Fortunately I had already saved the extracted data I needed. This is definitely a bug and it's hard to believe I'm the only one experiencing it. I will open a support ticket.
