How does "de-activating" ABBYY FineReader work?

Hello,

I've been using ABBYY FineReader v10 for years. I bought the thing. I installed and activated it on a PC. I understand that v10 is "out of life" or whatever, so you don't need to tell me that.

I have activated this on a PC and also on a laptop. So it appears to come with 2 "activations": is this correct?

I am in the process of switching that laptop to a Linux machine. At the moment it is a dual-boot machine: W10 "native" OS and Linux "native" OS ...

In the Linux OS I have VirtualBox installed, and another W10 OS as the "guest OS" in VirtualBox in Linux.

I just installed this v10 in that guest OS ... then I tried to activate it. I got "licence is activated for the other computer".

So the question is: how do I deactivate the activated installation in the "native" Win OS? Do I have to be online when I do so for some central database to know an activation has been "retired"?

PS I have no desire to upgrade to a higher version and won't be doing so.
