Application Server as a virtual machine? What would be optimal settings?

I've found that my company has set the application server as a virtual machine. Is this recommended? What would be some best practices for running on a virtual machine?

    Hello mharper,

    This is a regular practice if your virtual machine meets minimum hardware requirements (https://www.abbyy.com/en-us/support/flexicapture/11/pl/sr/?expandedclosed).
    It is not recommended by default however it is known for people to do that.

    Is using a virtual application server recommended for high volume projects? We are experiencing some pretty debilitating performance issues with our application server. Do you have any recommendations for improving performance on our virtual server? Would it be better for large projects if the application server was running on a physical server?
