On certain forms, FC 10 mis-reads the results of check mark bubbles. The problem forms are large forms with a lot of fields to read. On certain templates this problem can be a major issue. The problem has been with us since the Form Reader days and although I've been able to work around most of it, some templates remain a problem. ABBYY only mis-reads bubbles that are blank. I think the problem stems from extremely slight variances (between the template image and the scanned form) in the pixel count of the individual bubble. If a given bubble is "slightly" darker than the one compared in the template, it shows as being checked.
As a work around I have on occasion had the graphics department slightly darken the bubbles in a form that is scanned only for the template image. This way the bubbles are darker than the lighter (in comparison) in the actual forms. It works but is far from perfect.
It would be nice if ABBYY would allow us to choose a "confidence level" for the field. Since we insist the bubbles be blackened and not checked or crossed, we could lower the confidence level and eliminate the False-Positive problem.
I've worked with Kofax software and they have such an option. It works great! In my opinion, ABBYY software is hands down better for what we do, but the confidence level feature would greatly enhance ABBYY's software for our use.
