USB dongle licence and Hyper-V

Hi,

According to Microsoft, Hyper-V does not support USB devices (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744892%28v=WS.10%29.aspx#BKMK_10).
So we need "USB over Network" software to work with USB dongles.
Any one tried to use these softwares? How was they?

I found that these are the most common:

http://www.kernelpro.com/usb-over-ethernet.html

    Plak,

A couple years back, we started to convert to ESXi which as you know doesn't have USB support either. At least not at the time. We actually tried kernelpro. It actually worked good. As long as the computers were within the same network, i.e. not across the WAN, we generally didn't have any issue. I think they had a 30day trial at the time. The only hiccup was if there was a lot of network traffic, sometime our station would not start up because it couldn't connect to the "usb dongle".

For reliability, why not just get software license or plug the USB into a hardware computer and make that your license server. Then you can point the stations and server to that license server. It's pretty much going to be the same as using the USB over Network since you need a "computer to plug the USB" in anyways. This all assume you are using Dist and not Standalone.

Sushi, thanks again for fast respond!

I just saw that my question is in wrong section. I need license for Recognition Server. Sorry for that.
But yours answer was very useful as well.

The hardware computer with license server is great solution in FC Distributed, but in RS it's impossible to separate license server, isn't it?

    Thanks!

    Plak,

I think you are correct. I think technically the "License" component is part of the Server Manager component. In which case, just install the server manager on the hardware computer. Processing station can be all virtual..

    Hi all!

I would also like to add USB network GATE. Which works with all operating systems. Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware USB pass-through connection is now possible and this is good news.
