Hi friends,
I am working on cleaning up and enhancing a scan in preprocessing stage with aim of improving OCR capture accuracy.
Has any one of you tried this out? If so then which tools did you use and would also be nice if you can share some stats about the benefits got.
Thanks,
- Manoj
PS: I am using FlexiCapture and tried the image preprocessing options (despeckle, convert color to black and white etc) but did not really get any improvements. Maybe I need to try it with more documents.

In general, changing scan options is more useful than preprocess an image. You may improve scan quality or set up brightness (these properties are avaliable in scanning station).
As for the image preprocessing , it is more useful for images of good quality, it reduse the uncertain symbols count and so on. But preprocessing of "bad" images in most cases can't improve their quality.
You might want to also check your scanner software package. Some come with some nice clean up tools like Kofax VRS. In particular, what are you trying to clean up?
