Force verification of 'No Item Selected'

We have project which verifies pages of Multiple Choice questions using Checkbox groups of 4 answers. Multiple answers are not allowed for a group, but we cannot disallow 'No item selected' because sometimes respondents make no selection.

Our problem is that occasionally a valid a/b/c/d response is read as 'No item selected' and the staff verifying the form do not check properly. Is there a way to force a verifier to select the 'No item selected' option so we know that it has been checked and confirmed, rather than just ignored.

I cannot see any way to do this - am I missing anything?

Steve

     Hello

We suggest disabling “Allow empty selection” and “Allow multiple selection” options and enabling “Treat validation error as warning”.

Hi. Thanks for the suggestion, but it's one we've already looked at.

We want to reject 'Multiple selection', which is clearly invalid, but not 'Empty selection' which can be a valid response (although why someone would leave a multiple choice question blank rather than take a 1-in-4 chance mystifies me).

It is essentially operator error which allows an 'Empty selection' response to go through when it has been wrongly recognized and a choice has actually been made, but we were hoping to find a way of forcing the operator to confirm that the 'Empty selection' was correct, as a safety check.

If it can't be done we can live with that, I just wondered if there was any other way of forcing operator confirmation of an 'Empty selection' - a script perhaps?

Thanks for your input all the same,

    Steve

    Hello,

As we understood your situation, there could be two sources of empty selections - non-filled checkmark group and OCR fault in case of filled checkmark group. As FlexiCapture itself cannot distinguish these two situations (otherwise all filled groups would be recognized correctly), we need to draw attention of Operators to all 'No item selected' variants.

The best way to draw this attention would be the “warning” messages.

You may also create the script rule showing message when the 'No item selected' variant is selected.

For this you may use the ICheckmarkValue object: Using scripts in ABBYY FlexiCapture > Scripts for customizing processing stages > Objects > ICheckmarkValue.
