For the OCR process the FREngine.dll is only required.
You can find the VS solution samples in the Code Samples Library provided with the distribution pack (Start → Programs → ABBYY FineReader Engine 11 → Code Samples Library). The "Hello" sample shows how to load and use the FineReader Engine dll.
