Abbyy 9 auto correcting scanned French text Answered

Abbyy FineReader 9.0 Professional Edition is editing the scanned text, adding accents (it's a French text), and spaces after the ' character.

Where does this come from? I can't find the options for this auto correct feature, nor can I turn it off.

    Hi Jean!

Recognition result generally may depend on many different factors, such as document quality, fonts used, print type, specifics of how the text is printed, how PDF that is being converted was created, etc. Without examples, it’s hard to tell why the errors that you described may happen. To correct such errors, you may try to use Check Spelling tool (as it was called in FineReader 9.0) and Text Editor (for correcting manually after recognition, before saving to the output file), and also try adding those problematic words with accents and apostrophe to the dictionary that FineReader uses to double-check what’s “seen” on the page when converting it (please refer to the user manual for how to use these tools).

However, FineReader 9.0 is quite old version and is no longer supported. Since then, a number of improvements in document conversion quality have been made and many problems fixed. I’d recommend you try your documents with the newest FineReader PDF 15 which contains the latest version of ABBYY’s OCR technology. A free full-functional Trial version you can download from our web-site https://pdf.abbyy.com/lp/finereader15-download-free-trial/.
