Debug external assembly for project uploaded to server in Visual Studio

I've read a number of posts on debugging external assemblies. Everything works for me when I have a local project, but the moment I upload the project to the server everything stops working. I do get prompted to open the Visual Studio debugger, but once I do I get something that says "The application is in break mode. Your app has entered a break state but there is not code to show because all threads were executing external code." If I then click "Continue execution", I get another message on the screen saying "NXSAbby.pdb not loaded". I then try to browse to the path of the file and select it, I then get the error "A matching symbol file was not found in this folder." At this point, not sure what else to try. Is there a way to debug the stages when running the project locally and not off the server? Because my problem is I have scripts that execute as part of the workflows, so I need the document to move along the workflow to be able to debug things. Screenshots attached. Also, forgot to mention above, I'm VS from the same machine where the ABBYY server is installed (it's a distributed installation).
