Multiple Languages and in-line dictionnary

1. Would it be possible to have a dictionnary that is always available while editing a document.

2. I'm not sure if it would help precision - marking blocks of text to a certain language which may help for some projects.

3. Getting rid of the Recognize all button, or at least put a prompt or even a double prompt as this caused me to lose many hours of work when I accidentally clicked it after already correcting all my pages.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your suggestions!

    1. Can you please describe this suggestion in more details?

    2. It's already there: click Area Properties and select the language - see marked in yellow in the screenshot:

    3. When Recognize button is clicked while there were no changes made to the areas in the left pane, FineReader PDF asks to confirm the action (see above, marked in red). If any of the areas have been modified or added, FineReader starts recognition without asking for confirmation, but recognizes only the areas that have been modified or added, without changing anything else. So in theory it shouldn't have caused such a problem as you described. Can you please describe what were your actions before clicking "Recognize" button when it happened to you?

What else could cause the whole document to be recognized again when you click "Recognize" button for the second time is if you have changed any of the recognition settings that affect the whole document, for example, PDF recognition mode (if you're converting a PDF), OCR languages, etc. It would probably make sense to add a warning in such a situation.

    Best regards,

    Yuriy

Perhaps I'm missing a Latin dictionary I should have download somewhere. So far I've had to build my own Latin dictionary. I've added over 2000 words already. Very time consuming. Perhaps because I'm working with old Latin texts? In my case, it would be nice to add words to the dictionary without having to keep opening and closing the dictionary. having the dictionart always visible while I work.

Thank you very much for your helpful information with language specification. This will help.

    Hi Guy,

Once you created a user dictionary for a language in FineReader PDF and have started populating it with words, it remains available and is used whenever you select this language. To add new words to the user dictionary you can use "Add to dictionary" button in the "Verify" tool or a command with the same name from the right-click menu when you work with the text in the Text Editor window. It's not necessary to open the dictionary via Tools->View dictionaries... every time. You can find instructions on working with user dictionaries in FineReader PDF help https://help.abbyy.com/en-us/finereader/15/_search_result/?text=user+dictionary.

    Thanks again.

PS. Is there a maximum number of words that Abbyy will accept in a user dictionary - will Abbyy still work ok with perhaps 5000 words or more?

Hi! There's no such limits set. Several thousand words in a user dictionary shall be totally OK. I'd say that if you have a user dictionary of about a hundred thousand words or so, it may already start slowing FineReader PDF down.
