Is there a way to make a shortcut for Screenreader to go directly to capturing a portion of the screen w/out bringing up the Screenshort reader window?

Unfortunately, there's no such possibility. Screenshot Reader window must be active for the shortcuts to work (Ctrl+R for capturing text, Ctrl+I for capturing image).
To make it easier to use Screenshot Reader shortcuts when you need to make multiple captures in a row, turn on the option "Always on top" (Ctrl+T or right click on the tray icon, then "Options").
ABBYY FineReader is number 1 with accuracy but until this essential feature is developed, TextGrab remains more efficient to capture with just a keystroke.
