FineReader OCR Pro - Cannot Draw Text Area Anymore. Why?

Hello,

I've successfully used FineReader OCR Pro many times in the past - but, today, for some strange reason I am unable to draw a Text Area, or any other area after importing an image file.  When attempting to draw a Text Area onto the imported image file I can see the cursor changing to the appropriate indicator - indicating that I'm about to draw a Text Area - but, when I try to draw a Text Area rectangle nothing appears (no response - no error message - just nothing).  This was something I could easily do in the past.  So, why is this happening now?  Am I doing something wrong?  I've rebooted the computer and all the standard troubleshooting.  Either I'm totally doing it wrong or your software quit working correctly.  Do I need to reactivate a license or something?  (I don't get any message or indication that there's a license problem)

I've tried emailing support@abbyy.com to get help - but instead of getting help I was referred to dysfunctional abbyy support website and therefore was not able to initiate a support ticket.

Here is my software information:

     FineReader OCR Pro

     Version 12.1.14 (1052435) Part: 1168/24

     Serial Number FSRP-1200-0000-6152-8328-0826

I'm using a 2015 MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey 12.4

Any help is much appreciated!

Well, at least you've made it up to the first google search result with your question. I was using FineReader 12.1.14 (1052435) Part: 1215/34 and have been experiencing the same issue for a while now,
It appears that for the PRO version you won't get any help from ABBYY anymore:

According to the article, you may purchase ABBYY FineReader PDF for Mac instead at the ABBYY.store

FineReader Pro for Mac was a bit pricy when I bought it (around 2019) - but, it seemed to work reasonably well once I learned how to get best results.   However, I'm rather off put over recent experiences of the software suddenly becoming dysfunctional and then learning there's no support for FineReader Pro any longer.

I'm a bit on the fence over buying FineReader PDF for Mac.   I don't know what the price is either.

    Hello Jan,

FineReader Pro is not fully compatible with macOS Big Sur and later: https://support.abbyy.com/hc/en-us/articles/4407904213651
