I have to combine a large number of TIFF into PDFs and ran across a quirk where when I choose the Image Quality settings that are named: "Best Quality", "Balanced", and "Compact Size" the resulting PDFs are much larger than when I choose a numerical quality setting adjacent to those settings. The difference in file size for a set of TIFF compressed to a PDF on Balanced (nominally 45%) is over 300% from the set compressed at quality 44% or 46%.
Why does this occur? Do the named settings compress with different file formats compared to the other settings? like jpg vs j2k?
