Slow render in Notability (only with the pdf created by FineReader PDF)

I receive scans in TIF file format,
ScanTailor, and correct them,
I use the resulting corrected TIFF file to create a pdf in Adobe or Abbyy.
(Abbyy FineReader PDF Standard 16, Adobe Acrobat Pro 2024)

The pdf created with ABBYY FineReader renders very slowly on the iPad specific app (Notabiliby).
PDFs created with Adobe render quickly on the screen.

This is true even if the file size is similar or if the Adobe created pdf is slightly smaller (more compressed).

I tested the rendering speed (i.e., screen popping) of a few apps on my iPad (Pro 12.9 2021 M1 processor).

The files tested were primarily a 232-page PDF with 300 dpi grayscale.

Notability (both Classic and Plus versions): Only PDFs created by Abbyy are significantly slower, with the screen updating piecemeal.

GoodNote : abbyy is also fast enough to not notice the difference.

PDF Expert : abbyy is also fast enough to not notice the difference.

Flexcil : Slightly, really slightly, abbyy is slower.

Native iPad file apps: All fast with no issues.

I created the PDF in Abbyy FineReader PDF Standard 16 with different settings, but it's still slow with only slight differences. If I make it to PDF/A, it's a little faster, but still much slower than other apps (Goodnote, PDF Expert, etc). It's so slow that you can see the rendering in areas.

Only in Notability is the screen rendering very slow.
What could be the problem? How can it be improved?

    Hello,

I will post a reply to your ticket here if some other customers are interested in the same issue.

The issue is in the Notability program. Slow rendering is caused by the image compression codec used in FineReader PDF 16.
Currently, there is no option to change the compression codec through the program settings. We have forwarded your issue description to our Research and Development Department and registered it as a feature request.
