Is there a way to tell Abby FR to recognize all the PDF files in a certain directory and save those PDF files (as searchable PDFs) without having to open each file and do it manually?

Hi Susan!
FineReader PDF Corporate has Hot Folder feature, which allows doing that. With Hot Folder, you can process files in a folder immediately, set a schedule to plan the processing for a certain time or to do it repeatedly, or set up a watched folder to process incoming documents as soon as they're added to the folder. You can read about it on the product website and in details in the User Guide. You can try FineReader PDF Corporate for free.
If you already use FineReader, but your version is Standard (which doesn't have Hot Folder feature), there's another feature that may also help get your task done. Click "Convert to PDF" button on the "Open" tab in the Start window, select the PDF files that you need to convert into searchable, make sure the "Full-text search" option is set to "Search inside text and images" and the "Combine all files into one document" checkbox is off. Then click "Convert to PDF" and select the folder to save processed files. You can read more how to use the feature in the User Guide.
