How are settings for document definitions organized on the application server?

Specifically I'm looking for the data storing the export values for checkbox fields and export values for fields without region

I've taken a look at the files on the application server, and many of the files cannot viewed with the tools installed on the server

There are several XML files detailing document definition settings and batch types, but I'm not sure how to parse the information listed in the files

How are these settings organized in the files?

What are the following files, and what information do they store?

x-y-N
x-y-FormLayoutBodyN
x-y-OptimizedN
x-y-TemplateBodyN
