Page count much larger than expected

I have a 382-page PDF that Recognition Server 4 (with FineReader XIX module) counted as 3,440 pages in the job log.  The page images are not especially large, the whole PDF is just 172 MB.  For much larger documents, I have almost always seen 1 page in the log per 1 page in the document, maybe 2:1 a few times.  What could be causing this 9:1 multiple in the page count?  Thanks.  (I tried to attach the PDF to this discussion, but the server timed out.  Perhaps, I can email it somewhere for your inspection?)

    Hello,

Could you please check the document resolution? We suppose that documents may have wrong resolution settings or the software may read them not correctly

Attached are sample pages from the document.  In the job log, there are warnings that "Image resolution is suspicious, estimated resolution is X," where X=350, 400, or 500 for these pages.  I've seen these warnings for other documents, but never with a page count reported of 9 times the number of pages in the PDF, or anything close to that.

    Hello,

As we can see the resolution of the picture is determined as 52*52 dpi after rasterizing. The resulting page size is thus 25*38 inches, that equals about 9-10 of A4 pages.

Please try to set the correct resolution in the source file image layer (most probably it should be 300*300 dpi).

Thank you for the feedback.  In situations like this, I think Recognition Server should show a warning message before saving the result, like (in Verification Station) "If you accept this document, the page count will be 3,440.  We recommend changing the resolution and re-recognizing, to see if the page count can be reduced."  With such a warning, the user won't be surprised by a very high page count.
