We currently have all our hotfolders stationed on the processing server.
According to the overview below, it seems as though before any processing can be done the Application server must first format the images and record information about the documents. The formatted images are then sent to processing server for recognition and then returned to the application server

Could we improve performance and stability by performing image import on the application server instead of the processing server?

Hello,
We do not recommend placing the hot-folders on the same machine with the Filestorage and the database, because the hot-folders monitoring creates a significant load on the disk subsystem.
