A size of output file is greater than input file in the ten times

Hello!

I use Abby Recognition Server 3.5.

I have a script which I created user Abbyy Recoginition Server Administration Console.

I set up all properties of output file in the script "as it is": Color, Resolution, Compression

Surprisingly, I found out that the size of output file became greater in almost ten times.

The only difference I noticed was a deep of color. Input file had a value 8, but output file had  a value 24.

    Hello,

Could you send us your workflow and some images for tests?

Sorry, I didn't manage to upload test images here for my post (I've got an error). Therefor I uploaded two test files on google drive.

One of them is an input file, other is output file. Script.xml is a script in Abbyy Recognition Server Administration control, this script is used to process input file and produce output file. All setting you can find in that xml.

    Here is a link

My workflow is simple. The script monitors a folder. I put "TEST (BEFORE ABBYY).tif" file in this folder. The script creates output file "TEST (AFTER ABBYY).tiff into other folder.

    Hello,

The difference of sizes for the files "before" and "after" can be explained by the fact that "before" you had TIFF format with JPEG compression and "after" you have "uncompressed" TIFF format, as we can see in Output Format Settings of your workflow.

The color depth is the same (24 bit) for both files.

To avoid increasing of output file size, please select the same (JPEG in your case) compression option.

Could you explain me please, how you managed to find out that the "TIFF file before" was with JPEG compression? I don't see such information in properties of this file.

If I set JPEG compression for my "after file" then I get a file, which I can't open. I use Microsoft Office Document Imaging.

But I can open this file using Paint.

If I set LZW compression then I get a file, which I can open and its size is 265 Kb. This size is good result, but anyway the size of my "file before" is 64KB.

I would like to get the same size for output file.

Please find files jpeg.tif and lzw.tif on google disk

    Hello,

We cannot guarantee the exact match of file sizes before and after RS processing, as it requires finer tuning of JPEG compression parameters that RS has access to. However, the difference of JPEG-compressed files "before" and "after" is less than 2 times, so it is not too big.

As to the fact that after being processed by RS, the resulting tiff file cannot be opened by Microsoft Office Document Imaging application - at the same time it can be opened by such default Windows apps as MsPaint, Windows Photo Viewer and also by IrfanViewer. So we consider that the resulting tiff file is valid and the problem is on the side of Microsoft Office Document Imaging.

The information about original image properties, such as compression, can be discovered by some advanced image editor applications (we used IrfanViewer) in the "Image properties" section ("I" shortcut in IrfanViewer).
