Using FineReader PDF on a PC with the Dell SupportAssist installed

Question

How to use FineReader PDF on the computer with the Dell SupportAssist installed?

Answer

It is a known issue when FineReader PDF may stop working correctly and throw an error about the corrupted program files on computers where Dell SupportAssist is installed (for example, FineReader is launched with an assert: Error code: 258).

This is connected to the fact that Dell SupportAssist can delete files and registry keys of third-party software.

Since adding folders, registry keys, and programs to the exceptions list of Dell SupportAssist is not possible, it's recommended to repair the FineReader PDF as outlined in the article in case experience issues using the program after running Dell SupportAssist.

Note: It's recommended not to start Dell Support Assist while FineReader PDF or its components (ScreenshotReader, HotFolder) is running. Close FineReader PDF and components beforehand.
